ATTENTION UNIVERSITIES: YOUR HOMECOMING IS BIGGER THAN ONE WEEKEND
An Open Letter to University Leadership, Student Affairs, Alumni Relations, Athletics, Communications, Career Services and Campus Organizations Across Georgia
CRUSH MAGAZINE™ | CRUSH UNIVERSITY™ | FALL 2026
To university presidents.
Student-affairs leaders.
Alumni-relations teams.
Athletic departments.
Student-government advisers.
Career-services offices.
Communications departments.
Entrepreneurship centers.
Campus programming teams.
Development offices.
And the people responsible for protecting and advancing the institutions students call home:
There is an enormous asset sitting on your calendar.
You already know its name.
HOMECOMING.
But Homecoming is bigger than a football game.
Bigger than a concert.
Bigger than a parade.
Bigger than a tailgate.
Bigger than an afterparty.
Homecoming is one of the rare moments when nearly every generation connected to an institution can occupy the same cultural space.
Current students.
Recent graduates.
Older alumni.
Faculty.
Staff.
Athletes.
Families.
Business owners.
Corporate executives.
Entrepreneurs.
Community leaders.
Future students.
Donors.
Visitors.
They come back.
And for several days, the institution possesses something almost every company in America spends enormous money trying to manufacture:
ATTENTION.
The question is what happens with it.
HOMECOMING IS AN INSTITUTIONAL MEDIA EVENT
Every photograph communicates something.
Every band performance.
Every alumni gathering.
Every student organization.
Every athletic moment.
Every entrepreneur selling something.
Every packed restaurant.
Every family walking across campus.
Together they tell the world:
This institution has a living community.
That’s powerful.
It deserves documentation worthy of its importance.
CRUSH MAGAZINE™ WANTS TO HELP TELL THOSE STORIES
Not by pretending to speak for universities.
Not by implying partnerships that haven’t been authorized.
Not by placing institutional logos on independent events without permission.
But through responsible independent coverage—and, where institutions see legitimate value, properly structured collaboration.
There is an enormous amount worth covering.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP DESERVES MORE ATTENTION
University communications often announce elections.
Then the public hears little about those student leaders until another election.
What happened in between?
What did the administration accomplish?
What challenges did it face?
What did students request?
What programs worked?
What did these young leaders learn?
Those stories matter.
CRUSH Magazine™ wants to interview the people doing the work.
STUDENT ENTREPRENEURSHIP DESERVES A BIGGER STAGE
Look around campus.
Someone is already running a company.
Maybe ten people are.
Maybe a hundred.
Clothing.
Beauty.
Food.
Technology.
Photography.
Media.
Tutoring.
Music.
Transportation.
Fitness.
Design.
Events.
Professional services.
Homecoming creates customers.
Why shouldn’t student entrepreneurs have structured opportunities to reach them where appropriate?
Imagine:
HOMECOMING STUDENT BUSINESS MARKETS.
Real vendors.
Real customers.
Real transactions.
Real entrepreneurship.
That is experiential education.
CAREER SERVICES:
HOMECOMING MAY BE ONE OF YOUR MOST UNDERRATED RECRUITING OPPORTUNITIES.
Who returns during Homecoming?
Employers.
Executives.
Managers.
Founders.
Professionals.
Alumni with hiring authority.
And who is already on campus?
Students looking for careers.
Connect them.
Not necessarily with another giant career fair.
Try:
Industry dinners.
Alumni office hours.
Portfolio reviews.
Small networking sessions.
Founder conversations.
Creative-industry meetups.
Veteran career sessions.
Athlete career-transition discussions.
Make the network usable.
ALUMNI RELATIONS:
YOUR NETWORK IS ONE OF YOUR GREATEST PRODUCTS.
The diploma creates affiliation.
The relationship after graduation creates community.
Homecoming demonstrates whether that community remains alive.
But the opportunity shouldn’t end Sunday.
Capture relationships.
Create introductions.
Feature alumni businesses.
Connect mentors.
Document stories.
Build year-round engagement.
Homecoming should strengthen the alumni network for the other 51 weeks.
ATHLETIC DEPARTMENTS:
THE GAME IS THE CENTERPIECE, BUT THE ATHLETE IS A WHOLE PERSON.
The modern college athlete exists at the intersection of:
Sports.
Education.
Media.
NIL.
Business.
Community.
Personal branding.
Career development.
CRUSH Magazine™ is interested in athlete stories beyond box scores.
What are they studying?
What are they building?
What does Homecoming mean from inside the uniform?
What happens after eligibility?
Those stories can humanize athletics without diminishing competition.
COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENTS:
THERE ARE STORIES ON YOUR CAMPUS THE NATIONAL MEDIA WILL NEVER FIND BY ITSELF.
That’s not necessarily a criticism.
National media cannot cover everybody.
Regional and culture-focused publications can help fill the gap.
Send us:
Student achievements.
Research.
Entrepreneurship.
Athletics.
Arts.
Music.
Leadership.
Community programs.
Alumni accomplishments.
Institutional milestones.
Give independent media accurate information and access where appropriate.
Accuracy benefits everybody.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTERS:
LET’S FIND THE FOUNDERS BEFORE GRADUATION.
The next significant Georgia company may already exist as:
A class project.
A dorm-room operation.
A student organization.
A prototype.
A side hustle.
A social-media page.
A first customer.
Homecoming brings alumni capital and professional expertise back into proximity with those founders.
That’s an unusual opportunity.
Use it.
UNIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICES:
CORPORATE PARTNERS WANT AUTHENTIC ACCESS TO STUDENTS.
Universities want resources.
Students want opportunities.
Companies want talent and customers.
There are responsible ways to align those interests.
Scholarships.
Technology programs.
Entrepreneurship grants.
Internships.
Creator programs.
Research support.
Student-business competitions.
Career development.
Community initiatives.
The strongest corporate relationship creates value beyond advertising.
STUDENT AFFAIRS:
CULTURE DOESN’T STOP AT THE CAMPUS BORDER.
Students will attend independent events.
They will travel.
They will go downtown.
They will use rideshare.
They will attend parties.
They will gather.
Ignoring that reality doesn’t make it disappear.
There may be opportunities for universities, cities, venues and independent operators to communicate around:
Safety.
Transportation.
Responsible behavior.
Emergency information.
Community expectations.
Nobody has to endorse an independent event to support student safety.
PUBLIC SAFETY:
INFORMATION CAN PREVENT PROBLEMS.
Clear transportation guidance.
Traffic information.
Emergency contacts.
Parking information.
Capacity compliance.
Responsible venue operations.
Professional security.
Communication between appropriate stakeholders.
Homecoming is better when everybody gets home safely.
That should be common ground.
UNIVERSITIES SHOULD PROTECT THEIR BRANDS.
Absolutely.
Institutional names.
Logos.
Marks.
Official Homecoming branding.
Authorization matters.
Independent businesses should understand that.
CRUSH UNIVERSITY™ does.
Editorial discussion of a university is not the same thing as institutional sponsorship.
Independent events are not official university events unless formally authorized.
We believe clarity protects both sides.
AND CLARITY CREATES ROOM FOR REAL PARTNERSHIPS.
Because once everybody understands what is independent and what is official—
actual collaboration becomes easier to define.
Media access.
Student-business programs.
Creator initiatives.
Career programming.
Community partnerships.
Alumni engagement.
Sponsored educational programming.
There are numerous possibilities.
They simply need to be built correctly.
GEORGIA STATE
ATLANTA — OCTOBER 2
Downtown Atlanta offers extraordinary opportunities to connect students with business, technology, government, sports, media and entertainment.
CRUSH Magazine™ wants to document the people taking advantage of that environment.
UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA
ATHENS — OCTOBER 3
UGA Homecoming sits inside one of America’s most visible college-football cultures.
But the university story extends beyond Saturday’s scoreboard.
Students.
Research.
Entrepreneurship.
Alumni.
Athletics.
Culture.
Athens deserves complete coverage.
MOREHOUSE × SPELMAN × CLARK ATLANTA
ATLANTA UNIVERSITY CENTER — OCTOBER 9
The AUC represents an extraordinary concentration of Black higher education.
Three institutions.
Distinct identities.
Connected geography.
Enormous alumni networks.
This deserves more than nightlife coverage.
It deserves serious cultural documentation.
ALBANY STATE
ALBANY — OCTOBER 10
South Georgia matters.
Regional HBCUs matter.
Their students matter.
Their alumni matter.
Their economic impact matters.
Their stories deserve statewide distribution.
SAVANNAH STATE
SAVANNAH — OCTOBER 16–17
Savannah State occupies a unique position inside one of America’s most historically significant coastal cities.
Homecoming connects campus culture to a much larger Savannah story.
We want to document both.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN
STATESBORO — NOVEMBER 6–7
College-town culture creates another version of Homecoming entirely.
Students.
Alumni.
Football.
Regional travel.
Statesboro becomes the final scheduled Fall 2026 CRUSH UNIVERSITY™ market.
And it deserves its own identity.
HERE’S WHAT WE’RE ASKING UNIVERSITIES TO CONSIDER.
Not endorsement.
Not automatic partnership.
Conversation.
Where appropriate:
Give us accurate information.
Introduce us to stories worth telling.
Let student entrepreneurs know opportunities exist.
Help student leaders tell their stories.
Connect alumni accomplishments with current students.
Consider creator and media access where appropriate.
Explore legitimate programming opportunities when interests align.
That’s how relationships begin.
AND HERE’S WHAT CRUSH SHOULD PROVIDE IN RETURN.
Professionalism.
Accuracy.
Clear disclosures.
Respect for institutional intellectual property.
Respect for students.
Responsible coverage.
Useful media.
Opportunities where possible.
And a platform interested in more than extracting attention during Homecoming week.
Partnership should create mutual value.
BECAUSE THIS CAN BECOME BIGGER THAN FALL.
The CRUSH calendar continues into:
SPRING 2027.
Miami.
Savannah/Tybee.
Atlanta.
Jacksonville.
That creates additional opportunities around:
Tourism.
Hospitality.
Travel.
Internships.
Student creators.
Experiential marketing.
Media.
Business.
And regional networks.
A relationship formed around Homecoming doesn’t have to disappear after Homecoming.
THE BIGGER OPPORTUNITY IS A NETWORK.
Imagine student journalists from multiple universities contributing to one cultural platform.
Student entrepreneurs discovering customers across campuses.
Alumni connecting across institutions.
Photographers traveling between markets.
DJs exchanging audiences.
Founders meeting investors.
Companies recruiting talent.
Universities gaining additional positive coverage.
Cities gaining visitors.
Now the value compounds.
HIGHER EDUCATION DOESN’T END IN THE CLASSROOM.
Students learn everywhere.
Running organizations.
Playing sports.
Building businesses.
Creating media.
Managing money.
Leading people.
Making mistakes.
Negotiating.
Traveling.
Networking.
Homecoming brings many of those experiences together.
That’s why CRUSH UNIVERSITY™ exists as a concept.
Not to pretend to be a university.
But to document the education happening around university culture.
SO TO GEORGIA’S UNIVERSITIES:
We’re watching.
Not looking for controversy.
Looking for excellence.
Looking for leadership.
Looking for entrepreneurship.
Looking for culture.
Looking for people.
Looking for the stories the rest of the country hasn’t heard yet.
And where there’s room to build something valuable together—
THE DOOR SHOULD BE OPEN.

Let’s document all of it.
