MR CRUSH WANTS YOU TO RECOGNIZE HIM BEFORE THE SONG STARTS
Oversized portraits, CRUSH jerseys, and animated worlds give Mikey Turner’s music a visual identity of its own.
The head is deliberately oversized. The face is meant to be unmistakably Mikey’s.
That combination sits at the center of the animated visual direction George “Mikey” Turner III has developed for Mr CRUSH. His character appears in a black CRUSH jersey, hoodie, or branded hat, carrying a recognizable likeness into settings that can change dramatically from one song to another.
The ambition is cinematic. A song can have its own atmosphere, supporting characters, movement, and story. Mr CRUSH gives the audience someone familiar to follow through it.
The face holds the worlds together
Mikey’s instructions for his animated character consistently return to likeness.
He has supplied multiple photographic references and called for versions with and without sunglasses. The proportions can be exaggerated, but the person must remain recognizable.
That distinction gives the character its purpose. The large head establishes a playful visual style while the facial likeness keeps the artist present. A CRUSH jersey or cap adds another point of recognition.
Across a series of videos, those choices can build continuity. Viewers may encounter a different setting with each release, but they can still identify the central performer.
Each song gets a setting
The visual concepts for AM‑ORIGINAL I show how broadly Mikey wants to use animation.
“ClimateControlla” imagines a Fire & Ice Festival, with a remote that changes seasons and transforms the surroundings. A pool can become a rink; tropical scenery can give way to ice.
“BeenJammin” takes another route: a boulevard connecting the energy of Atlanta, Savannah, Jacksonville, and Miami, with cars, speaker walls, and rooftop dancers.
For “OnlyFanz,” the concept turns toward relationship drama inside a Hologram Heartbreak Hotel. Scenes of nights out sit alongside the experience of a partner waiting at home.
These are distinct creative treatments. The recurring Mr CRUSH character gives them a shared visual language.
Movement has to carry the scene
Mikey describes his approach directly: “The graphics are the video.”
That places considerable responsibility on the animation. The setting has to provide more than decoration. Crowds move independently, dancers occupy different parts of the frame, and brief loops keep activity running around the central character.
His concepts also use mannequin-challenge moments, with some figures frozen while others continue moving. Changes in lighting, location, and weather become part of the performance.
The result he is pursuing is a scene viewers can keep watching—one with activity beyond the artist’s face.
A familiar performer in an unfamiliar place
Mr CRUSH allows Mikey to move between realism and fantasy without giving up his own image.
He can appear in a recognizable city setting, a futuristic festival, or a psychedelic medieval metropolis. The environments change to serve the song. His likeness and recurring wardrobe help preserve the connection between them.
That balance gives the visual identity room to grow.
An audience can discover the character through a single image, then follow him into another release. The next world may be unexpected. The face at its center is intended to feel familiar.
