CRUSH MAGAZINE — THE SWAMP BABY EDITION

BEFORE THE WORLD CUP, THERE WAS

SWAMP BABY

Go back to the 2021 project that introduced a new chapter of Plug Not A Rapper’s story

CRUSH MAGAZINE | MUSIC • SAVANNAH • CRUSH LEGACY

Before listeners could press play on Am Original, before the videos for “BeenJammin” and “CRUSH WORLD CUP,” there was an eight-song project called Swamp Baby.

Released July 1, 2021, the Plug Not A Rapper album is a compact introduction to an earlier moment in PartyPlugMikey’s recording career. Its track list moves from “Been Rich Freestyle” and “Turn Up Da Strip” to “Recipe,” “Get Mine,” and the title track, “Swamp Baby.”

For a new listener, Swamp Baby is an opportunity to hear where one chapter began. For somebody who has followed Mikey’s journey, it’s a reason to go back and bring an early record into the present.

FROM SAVANNAH TO A NEW CHAPTER

George “Mikey” Turner’s story has always carried more than one setting: the Savannah community where he grew up, the basketball courts and relationships that shaped him, and the entertainment world he continued to build.

CRUSH’s own music overview connects Swamp Baby to a period of new beginnings and a move to Florida. The project’s eight tracks preserve an early recording-era snapshot for listeners who want to follow that journey through the music.

The album doesn’t need a listener to know every detail of the story before pressing play. Start with the music, then follow the trail through the projects that came after it.

“BEEN RICH FREESTYLE”: THE FIRST IMPRESSION

The opening record has just over a minute to introduce itself.

“Been Rich Freestyle” starts the project with a title that sets a confident tone. It’s the first step into a short album that gives listeners eight different points of entry in roughly 16 minutes.

“TURN UP DA STRIP”: THE NIGHTLIFE CONNECTION

The second track, “Turn Up Da Strip,” puts nightlife in the conversation early.

For listeners interested in the party-facing side of the Plug Not A Rapper catalog, it offers a starting point before traveling forward to projects like Baddies Island and Mapouka Twerk Doctor.

“RECIPE”: THE VISUAL ENTRY POINT

Every artist develops a process. The ingredients change, the ideas grow, and each project becomes part of what comes next.

“Recipe” is one of the eight Swamp Baby tracks, and its video is featured in the CRUSH music library. Watch the visual, then return to the album to hear it in sequence.

“SWAMP BABY”: THE TITLE TRACK

An album’s title track gives its name somewhere to live inside the music. On Swamp Baby, that moment arrives after “Get Mine” and before “50 Rackz Extended” in the Audiomack and Amazon track listings.

For fans exploring the project, it’s a chance to hear the record carrying the name—and then decide what the title means to them.
