TOXIC PLUG LOVE: ATTRACTION, TEMPTATION, AND AN EARLIER CHAPTER OF PLUG NOT A RAPPER

Revisit the 2022 project through “Steph,” “Somebody Bih,” and the rest of its 16-song track list

CRUSH MAGAZINE | MUSIC • RELATIONSHIPS • CRUSH LEGACY

Some connections start with a look. Others begin with a conversation that goes on longer than either person expected. And sometimes, even when the situation is complicated, nobody is ready to leave it alone.

Toxic Plug Love puts that kind of tension right in its title.

Released January 8, 2022, the 16-song Plug Not A Rapper project gives listeners a 38-minute trip into an earlier chapter of the catalog. For fans who discovered PartyPlugMikey through the newer CRUSH releases, it’s an invitation to go back and explore the music that came before them.

THE ATTRACTION

Love songs don’t all have to arrive with a perfect ending. Sometimes the interesting part is the conversation: who wants who, who’s being honest, and what happens when attraction gets mixed with everything else going on.

The title Toxic Plug Love gives the project a place in that conversation. It also gives listeners a different route through the Plug Not A Rapper catalog—one that can continue into later releases like F.R.1.E.N.D. Z.8.N.E. and Am Original.

“STEPH”: BASKETBALL AND CONFIDENCE MEET

One of the project’s featured records is “Steph.” The CRUSH music overview describes the song’s basketball references as a way of expressing confidence and knowing what you want. The song also has a visual featured in the CRUSH music library.

For listeners who know PartyPlugMikey’s connection to basketball, “Steph” offers an opportunity to hear that world meet the music.

“STEPH”: PLUG NOT A RAPPER BRINGS BASKETBALL INTO THE CONVERSATION

selection for the people who know confidence starts before the shot

Basketball players know the feeling: the decision has to be made before the ball leaves your hand. Hesitate, and the moment changes. Trust yourself, and you take the shot.

On “Steph,” Plug Not A Rapper brings basketball references into the world of Toxic Plug Love. The CRUSH album overview connects the title to Stephen Curry and describes confidence as part of the song’s presentation.

For fans who know PartyPlugMikey’s own basketball history, the song is another point where sport and music meet. Watch the video, then explore the album that surrounds it.

“SOMEBODY BIH”: A VISUAL WORTH BRINGING BACK INTO THE ROTATION

A catalog grows one record at a time. Sometimes the best way to introduce it to a new audience is to bring an earlier video back to the front.

“Somebody Bih” is featured alongside Toxic Plug Love in the CRUSH music library, with a YouTube visual credited to Plug Not A Rapper and PartyPlugMikey.

Send the video to somebody discovering the music for the first time, then follow it with the full project.
