YOUR CLASS GRADUATED. YOUR HOMECOMING NEVER DID.
WHY MR CRUSH WANTS CRUSHTOBER UNIVERSITY 21+ TO BECOME THE ALBUM THAT EVERY HBCU GENERATION PASSES DOWN
CRUSH MAGAZINE | THE HOMECOMING TIME CAPSULE EDITION
THE CLASS OF 1996. THE CLASS OF 2006. THE CLASS OF 2016. THE CLASS OF 2026.
DIFFERENT DECADES. DIFFERENT PLAYLISTS. THE SAME REASON TO COME HOME.
THE MOST POWERFUL THING ABOUT HOMECOMING ISN’T WHAT HAPPENS THIS YEAR.
It’s what happened twenty years ago that everybody still remembers.
A former roommate walks into the reunion and suddenly the years disappear.
Somebody remembers the exact song playing when their friend met the person they eventually married.
A retired athlete sees an old teammate and starts arguing about a game neither one has forgotten.
A fraternity brother recognizes somebody across the yard.
A sorority sister pulls out a photograph from an era before smartphones.
A former student points toward a building and remembers a professor who changed their life.
That’s homecoming.
Not merely an event.
A TIME MACHINE WITH SCHOOL COLORS.
And if there is one thing music knows how to do, it’s transport people backward without asking permission.
One record can take you from a crowded 2026 reunion straight back to a dorm room in 2006.
One hook can make a grown professional remember being a nervous freshman.
One familiar beat can remind an entire friend group of a weekend they still talk about.
That emotional power is the foundation of Mr CRUSH’s newest and most ambitious cultural campaign.
CRUSHTOBER UNIVERSITY 21+ IS APPLYING TO BECOME A PERMANENT PART OF HBCU HOMECOMING MEMORY.
Not simply a soundtrack for one October.
A record collection that people can discover, revisit, and carry into future reunions.
Twenty-one tracks.
One artist.
Three creative identities.
And a fictional university whose most important feature is that nobody ever has to graduate from the experience.
THE CLASS OF 1996: WHEN HOMECOMING WAS ALREADY HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Imagine returning to your HBCU thirty years after graduation.
The campus looks familiar, but not exactly the same.
New buildings have appeared.
Some favorite gathering places are gone.
Professors have retired.
The faces have changed.
But certain things remain recognizable.
The school colors.
The alma mater.
The people who remember you before your career, your titles, your accomplishments, and your responsibilities.
The friends who knew you when your biggest concern was passing an exam and making it to the weekend.
That’s the emotional foundation of an alumni reunion.
And it’s why a homecoming-themed album should never be marketed only to current college students.
The culture belongs to graduates, too.
Some of the people who celebrate most passionately haven’t attended a class in decades.
They don’t return because they need another diploma.
They return because the institution remains part of their identity.
THE DEGREE WAS EARNED ONCE. THE HOMECOMING IS RENEWED EVERY YEAR.
THE CLASS OF 2006: THE ERA THAT STILL KNOWS HOW TO MAKE AN ENTRANCE
Every generation believes its college years produced unforgettable music.
And in many ways, every generation is right.
The records change.
The dance styles change.
The technology changes.
But the social experiences remain remarkably recognizable.
The road trip.
The pregame.
The crowded party.
The outfit.
The old crush.
The classmate who suddenly looks completely different.
The reunion that turns into an unexpected adventure.
For alumni from the mid-2000s, the cultural references may be different from those of today’s students.
But the emotional appeal of homecoming is familiar.
That gives CRUSHTOBER UNIVERSITY 21+ an opportunity to reach beyond a single age group.
The album’s college identity can be understood by people who attended school in very different decades.
Its 21+ positioning makes the adult alumni experience part of the concept rather than an afterthought.
And its themes of fashion, social connection, nightlife, athletics, and personal ambition aren’t confined to one graduating class.
THE MUSIC CHANGES. THE REUNION INSTINCT DOESN’T.
THE CLASS OF 2016: THE GROUP CHAT NEVER GRADUATED
By the mid-2010s, social media had become deeply embedded in college life.
Photographs traveled instantly.
Group chats helped organize events.
Homecoming weekends could be documented from dozens of different perspectives.
The reunion no longer existed only in people’s memories.
It lived in photo galleries, old posts, saved videos, and conversations that continued long after graduation.
Now imagine what happens when a homecoming-themed album enters that environment.
A record can accompany a throwback slideshow.
A dance video.
A fashion recap.
A road-trip montage.
A reunion photograph.
A celebration of a class anniversary.
That’s one reason CRUSHTOBER UNIVERSITY 21+ has room for a long-term digital campaign.
Its subjects offer different kinds of content.
“Goin” for the journey.
“Crush Da Yard” for campus memories.
“College & Alumni Gurlz” for the reunion atmosphere.
“Mr Put that Shit On” for fashion.
“Midnight” for the after-hours story.
These are creative promotional uses, not claims about existing trends.
But they demonstrate how a record can become attached to a memory people already want to share.
THE CLASS OF 2026: THE NEXT GENERATION IS MAKING ITS MEMORIES RIGHT NOW
For students graduating in 2026, homecoming has a different meaning.
The memories are still fresh.
The friendships are still developing.
The experiences that older alumni discuss nostalgically may have happened only weeks ago.
This generation is living through its own cultural moment.
Its own music.
Its own fashion.
Its own social platforms.
Its own sports heroes.
Its own internet references.
And that is reflected in the range of subjects contained within CRUSHTOBER UNIVERSITY 21+.
The project moves from HBCU homecoming and football imagery into anime, basketball, fashion, and contemporary cultural language.
“Anime.”
“Hunter x Hunter Episode 304.”
“Demure DeRozan.”
“Johnni Deepp.”
“Lilo & Stitch.”
These titles reflect a willingness to engage with references beyond traditional college-party imagery.
And that variety matters.
Today’s students are not one-dimensional consumers of music.
They can be athletes, gamers, anime fans, fashion enthusiasts, dancers, entrepreneurs, and HBCU supporters at the same time.
A university-themed album should have room for those identities.
THE NEXT GENERATION DOESN’T NEED TO INHERIT EVERY TRADITION UNCHANGED. IT NEEDS ROOM TO ADD ITS OWN.
THE ALUMNI ARE THE CULTURAL BRIDGE
One of the most overlooked aspects of homecoming is the role alumni play in carrying traditions across generations.
Students experience a campus for a limited period.
Alumni can remain connected for the rest of their lives.
They return with their families.
They support programs.
They reconnect with friends.
They share institutional stories.
They introduce younger relatives to the meaning of their alma mater.
And they help preserve the social rituals that make homecoming recognizable.
That makes alumni particularly important to any music campaign built around long-term homecoming relevance.
If CRUSHTOBER UNIVERSITY 21+ is going to become a recurring seasonal favorite, it cannot depend entirely on new students discovering it once.
It needs returning listeners.
People who remember the album from a previous year.
People who associate a particular record with a reunion.
People who add it to the playlist because it belongs to their homecoming routine.
The most valuable audience isn’t always the person who listens first.
Sometimes it’s the person who comes back.
FRESHMEN DISCOVER. SENIORS CELEBRATE. ALUMNI KEEP THE TRADITION ALIVE.
TWENTY-ONE TRACKS. TWENTY-ONE OPPORTUNITIES TO CREATE A MEMORY.
CRUSHTOBER UNIVERSITY 21+ follows an official 21-track sequence:

Trick or Treat
Every record offers a different possible entry point into the project.
The campus references create the university setting.
The athletic titles introduce competition.
The social titles speak to the adult reunion atmosphere.
The fashion and nightlife concepts reflect familiar homecoming experiences.
The pop-culture references expand the personality of the album.
And the Halloween finale returns the listener to October.
The objective isn’t to convince every listener that all 21 songs should mean the same thing.
It’s to give different listeners different reasons to connect.
A former athlete might be drawn to the football concept.
A fashion enthusiast might recognize the appeal of “Mr Put that Shit On.”
An anime fan might be curious about “Hunter x Hunter Episode 304.”
An alumnus preparing for a reunion might begin with “MEAC Homecoming.”
And someone planning a road trip might start with “Goin.”
Different entrances.
One album.
THE SAVANNAH CONNECTION MAKES THE STORY PERSONAL
For Mr CRUSH, this isn’t simply an abstract campaign about college culture.
Savannah is the foundation.
The neighborhoods.
The youth basketball experiences.
The local relationships.
The social environments.
The athletic competition.
The connection to Savannah State’s homecoming culture.
Those experiences form part of the artist’s history.
And they offer a reason for the university concept to feel personal rather than manufactured.
The most compelling version of the CRUSHTOBER campaign isn’t one that pretends the artist invented HBCU homecoming.
It’s one that explains why the culture matters to him.
What he remembers.
What he celebrates.
What he wants to preserve.
And how the music can contribute to the experience for others.
THE BEST HOMECOMING STORIES DON’T BEGIN WITH THE STADIUM. THEY BEGIN WITH THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE PLACE FEEL LIKE HOME.
THE ETERNAL HOMECOMING CHALLENGE
Here’s the invitation CRUSH Magazine is extending to every generation of HBCU alumni.
Think about your favorite homecoming memory.
Not the one that looks most impressive on social media.
The one you still talk about.
The one that makes you laugh.
The one that reminds you of somebody important.
The one that brings you back to a younger version of yourself.
Now imagine adding a new song to the collection of records associated with those experiences.
That’s the challenge behind CRUSHTOBER UNIVERSITY 21+.
Not to erase the classics.
Not to replace the songs that already belong to people’s college memories.
But to become a new addition to the soundtrack.
A record someone discovers in 2026.
Plays again in 2027.
Associates with a reunion in 2028.
And still remembers years later.
That’s what the word “eternal” should mean in this campaign.
Not an achievement the artist can announce into existence.
A TRADITION THE AUDIENCE CHOOSES TO KEEP ALIVE.
THE FINAL WORD: YOUR CLASS YEAR CHANGES. YOUR SCHOOL PRIDE DOESN’T.
Somebody is preparing for their first homecoming.
Somebody is celebrating their tenth.
Somebody is returning for their twentieth.
Somebody is bringing their children to see the campus for the first time.
Somebody is visiting a place that shaped their life more than they understood while they were there.
And somewhere in the middle of all those stories is music.
The songs people remember.
The records they share.
The playlists they rebuild.
The soundtracks that become inseparable from their experiences.
Mr CRUSH wants CRUSHTOBER UNIVERSITY 21+ to join that tradition.
Twenty-one tracks.
One artist.
Three identities.
A fictional campus inspired by recognizable Southern college culture.
And a mission that extends beyond the year of release.
THE CLASS OF 1996 CAN COME BACK.
THE CLASS OF 2006 CAN COME BACK.
THE CLASS OF 2016 CAN COME BACK.
THE CLASS OF 2026 CAN COME BACK.
AND CRUSHTOBER UNIVERSITY WILL STILL BE WAITING.
Because the most meaningful part of homecoming is not that you once attended.
It’s that you still belong.
THE DEGREE HAS A GRADUATION DATE.
THE MEMORIES DON’T.
AND THE MUSIC DOESN’T HAVE TO EITHER.
