BEFORE HAMPTON, A PLACE IN COACH CUTTER’S LINEUP

Ke’Ron Brown’s college record gives another dimension to the Savannah Panthers team George “Mikey” Turner III remembers.

When Mikey Turner names the players from Coach Cutter’s Savannah Panthers, he includes Keron Brown—Bethesda/Hampton.

The entry is brief. The connection opens a larger story.

To Mikey, Brown belongs to a shared basketball past: the team he remembers with the declaration, “We’re all stars.” In Hampton University’s records, he appears as Ke’Ron Brown, a Savannah guard whose contributions included starting assignments, rebounding, and a notable ability to collect steals.

The teammate in Mikey’s recollection has a college record worth exploring in his own right.

A Savannah player in Hampton’s rotation

Hampton’s official biography documents substantial involvement early in Brown’s college career. As a freshman in 2012–13, he played 31 games, started 13, and led the team with 53 steals. That season included an eight-steal performance at Radford.

His role expanded the following year: 30 starts in 31 appearances, with averages of 4.6 points and 4.8 rebounds. He again led Hampton in steals, finishing with 52. (hamptonpirates.com)

Those numbers give readers something specific to consider. Brown’s contribution extended across possessions—rebounding, creating turnovers, and spending sustained time in the lineup.

A college performance back in Savannah

One detail in Hampton’s account brings the story home.

During the 2014–15 season, Brown recorded a season-high five steals at Savannah State on January 24. Hampton lists his hometown as Savannah and his previous school as Quality Education Academy, adding another stop to the Bethesda/Hampton connections Mikey supplied. (hamptonpirates.com)

The Savannah State appearance places a hometown player back in Savannah wearing a college uniform. It is a concrete point where his local background and college career meet.

What Mikey remembers first

For CRUSH Magazine, the introduction begins earlier—with the Panthers.

Mikey places Brown among George Turner, James Williams, James Sinclair, Dashean Maxwell, Quan Chisolm, and the other teammates he names under Coach Cutter. That firsthand connection gives the college statistics a personal setting.

Before readers meet Brown through Hampton’s biography, they can meet him as someone who shared a team with the future Mr CRUSH.

The two accounts serve different purposes. Mikey preserves the relationship. Hampton documents part of the playing career. Together, they allow a fuller introduction than either a roster list or a statistical summary could provide alone.

Another name comes into focus

Mikey’s Panthers recollection contains fourteen players. Giving each person attention allows the team’s story to grow beyond a collective description.

Brown’s entry now carries particular achievements: college starts, team-leading steal totals, and a standout defensive statistic recorded back in Savannah.

For Mikey, he remains one of the players beside him under Coach Cutter.

For readers, Ke’Ron Brown is a name with a story to follow.
